2018 – 2021
Deep Foundations
Status: Achieved
Location: Lot 659 – Marfaa, in front of Beirut Harbor.
Category: Deep Foundations
Characteristics: 9 basements, 17 upper levels and a water table of 12m below ground level
Phase 1: Soil Investigation Campaign based on the indications of BUROHAPPOLD
■ Six boreholes, depths between 50 and 80m
■ Coring with Standard Penetration Tests, Pressuremeter tests and Lugeon Tests.
■ MASW, Downhole and ambient noise testing conducted
Purpose: Mapping of the soil stratigraphy; complement the geotechnical site investigation by identifying subsurface geophysical properties, fundamental resonance frequency, seismic wave velocities and other characteristics.
Phase 2: Geotechnical Consultancy Mission
Main shoring proposition:
■ Temporary and Partial Secant Pile Wall:
– Non-reinforced Short Primary Piles Ø1080,
– Reinforced Short Secondary Piles Ø880,
– Reinforced Long Secondary Piles
■ Geothermal Open Loop System study:
– Water inflow ≈150m3/hr
– Water Temperature: 21°
Generates more than 400kW of cooling power.
Phase 3: Design of tension pile
■ Tension piles conceived below the raft to ensure the stability of the building in the temporary phase.
Piles will allow the following;
– To stop the pumping process once the GF slab is executed,
– To compensate for the load deficit between the uplift pressure and the deadweight of the structure, executed till the GF.
